2007-9-15-eb-tree-sitters.jpgIt seems the Tree People are winning in the battle of the trees and the new Berkeley stadium.  They’ve apparently defined the grove planted in 1922 as ancient and are living in the trees to make sure no one cuts them down for a new stadium.  That means that in 30 years I will be considered ancient.  And I was just convincing myself that 50 was the new 30.  Anyway, I’m going to try to get some answers to some questions the next time I’m down there.  If you have your own questions let me know and I’ll try to include them.

Here’s the questions I have so far:

  1. You’ve lived in the trees for a year now, how much longer do you plan on staying there?
  2. How many people are now living in the trees?
  3. What are their occupations?
  4. Do you have any doctors living among you?
  5. What will you do if you get sick?
  6. Do you have a restroom?
  7. How do you bathe?
  8. Is it true you threw doo-doo at the firemen?
  9. Also, do you have cell phones so I can call you?
  10. What supplies do you need?  Toothbrush, hairbrush, shaving cream, eating utensils, napkins?
  11. How will you know when you’ve won?
  1.
    • Let’s say that tomorrow, UC Berkeley decides to scrap the new stadium plans and they tell you.
    • How will you know they aren’t just tricking you so you’ll come down and they can start leveling the trees?

My understanding is that UCB needs a new stadium because of earthquake saftey and because the Hayward fault runs right down the middle of the stadium.

  1. Is that your understanding?
  2. What if there is a big Cal Bears game and an earthquake happens and everyone in the stadium dies, will you feel that saving the trees was important enough to kill Berkeley sports fans?
  3. Which football sports team is your favorite?
  4. Did the Bears beat them recently, is that why you hate Cal Berkeley?

Hope all is well in tree-land!

So I’m sure there are lots of questions we can ask them.  Let me know what yours are and I’ll add them in.

Why don’t you ask them to come down?
