Please make these people go away….someone…anyone!!?
April 2nd, 2008

I’m greeted with a picture of Bill and Hillary smiling and waving to the cameras. In the background are some beautiful green trees, the sun is shining down and Hillary’s hair looking very blonde and Bill’s silver hair looking like a halo… The image looks like its right off the front cover of an AARP monthly mag or a commercial for Depends, I’m not sure which.
And the title is
“Hill and Bill: We Aren’t Going Anywhere.”
I don’t know about you but when I read that title and saw the image I was reminded of certain ‘guests’ I’ve had at dinner parties in the past who didn’t realize it was time to leave. You give all of the visual cues…. start cleaning up, put the trash out, ask if they need you to call them a cab, yawn relentlessly as they’re rambling on, but you still end up telling them its time to go because you have to be up early. But of course you’ll add that you can’t wait until the next time you get together to hear the rest of their analysis of the politics of American Idol.
It seems that Bill and Hillary have reached that point where they’ve been told…’Its time to go!’ and they responded with ‘We’re not going anywhere!” So thinking back on my dinner party analogy, maybe its time to call the party police? I’m not sure what Miss Manners would say about calling the police on needy guests, but I’m pretty sure that Amy Sedaris would think it perfectly acceptable.
